This is an open letter to anyone in Olney or the surrounding area who knew, worked for, or played sports for Albert (Ab) Acker.
Is there anyone out there who played for Dad? Or someone who has letters or memorabilia that would help?
As you know Albert Acker came to Olney after graduating from TCU as the coach for the Olney Cubs. His winning record has never been equaled. Ab coached Olney from 1928 until 1932, winning five consecutive district championships and three regional crowns. There were only two classifications in Texas high school football in those days, with the state divided into four regions. Regional was for the area championship. No coach has equaled his success since.
As his son, I am soliciting testimonials from those who knew Albert Acker so he may receive his proper recognition and place in TCU’s Sports Hall of Fame.
Time is running out, since most who knew him are deceased. But, if you knew him or your dad or mother knew him, then please write an e-mail to the TCU EX-Letterman’s Association with a copy to me. If you don’t have e-mail, then mail a letter or call.
I know we are all busy, but please take a few minutes and do this for someone who did so much for Olney. Please help, do not let the memory of this fine man die.
Do this while doing your Christmas cards, since the information needs to arrive by December 31, 2007.
Any sports clippings you have would be really helpful.
